Now more than ever, I believe that "Senior Portraits" are a right of passage and a most important milestone to capture and display on your wall. For some, especially here in Illinois*, one of the last states to still allow contracts for school photos-this will be the only images your high school senior has taken and it will look like everyone else's. It might be convenient and you have to go there to have your yearbook one taken, but is it truly how you want your child's final portrait as a teen to look?
If you are a senior or the parent of one we hope you look around and choose a professional that spends more than 20 minutes on your portrait session.
Yes, choosing a really good photographer will come with a bigger investment as will any item that has both exceptional quality, artistic value and a wonderful experience. And like all the finer things in life, you get what you pay for.
How many times have you used that Mom or Dad phrase on your kids I don't care if everyone else is doing that, or going there, or has that, you need to be your own person"... We have all done that and sounded like our own parents. you get it right?
I love working with High School seniors. I want to know where they have been, what they have excelled in, where they want to go, what their dreams are. I want to fulfill all they are hoping to have captured in their portraits as well as what Mom and dad want captured. It is not always the same thing as we see our kids differently than they see themselves.
Generation Z or the I-generation as they are sometimes referred to are always on their phones. To many of them they only are concerned with getting the portraits posted on social media in a 3 x 3 inch size and to see how many likes they can get. I get it.
But to truly leave a legacy and a portrait to define this important time in their lives, it takes a professional, it takes experience to see what makes each person unique, special, dignified and authentic. it takes a professional to print the portrait on photographic or fine art paper to last so that it can stand the test of time and be relevant on your walls and then their walls in the future.
For this generation coming of age, the risk of not capturing them in a printed portrait is a risk in not having any portraits of significant importance.
I welcome any and all inquiries about senior portraits and of course feel free to share this information with friends and family.
