One of the best parts about what I do is getting to watch children grow up through the portraits I create for their families. It is always amazing to me when a client comes in for their child's (really a young adult at this point) for their high school senior pictures or portraits as I refer to them. It usually takes my memory directly to a past session I had done of them. It reminds me of how quickly life goes by and I am thankful to be able to stop time and capture their children and families in portraits throughout their lives.
Illinois' has of course some laws that create unfortunately some less that beautiful senior portraits. This is because Illinois is a contract state. (many states are not and have the contracts classified as illegal). Not here in Illinois though- and what that means is your child must have the one for the yearbook taken by the photographer that has a contract with a school. But that is all you have to have taken by the contract photographer. Unfortunately, so many settle for those for their portraits. I explain this in hopes to educate our clients and those that follow my blog and newsletters.
Sometimes the High Schools Senior Portrait Session is the last one that you have the input on as far as clothing and styles as well as encouraging your son and daughter to include the important parts of the lives at this time. Bring the family pet- the band instruments or Football Jersey. Bring their artwork if they were in a lot of art classes, etc. Some kids do not have activities or passions yet, so bring their car or their best friend. These young adults will be very different if 5-10 years and capturing the important parts of their personalities will bring generations of memories and history to them and their children and grandchildren.
Whether you commission me or another studio, these are tips of what to plan for. As always, I am happy to answer any questions and to help you plan your portrait sessions here at Wancket Studios.
p.s. enjoy the variety of Grey's senior portraits, an absolute perfect example of a senior photo session.
